Caretaker is looking for a talented frontend engineer and designer to add to our purposefully small team of smart, motivated, and experienced engineers. We use our small size to our advantage by having little to no meetings, allowing extensive creative freedom in engineering and design, and giving each individual full ownership over an entire "stack" of our growing product. Joining our team now means you'll be involved in all critical product/business decisions, you'll be making some of those decisions yourself, and you'll have the necessary flexibility and tools to do that.
The person we need is confident in their skillset and has been honing it for years. That means you really (really!) love development OR design, and you're confident enough that you feel you could teach someone else your skillset. You don't need both -- we're happy with an experienced developer who's learned design in the last few years, and vice versa.
We don't care about where you came from, how old you are, what school you went to, etc. We care about what you can do.
Our frontend tech stack is this:
Sass
React
GraphQL/Apollo
Node
Some tools we use:
Webpack
Flow
ES6
Storybook
Sketch
Illustrator
A bit about the company: The homepage is pretty self-explanatory with regard to what we actually do, but in short, we help people sublet their apartments. Long term, we're aiming to be the only way people rent apartments.
Our current team is eight people. We're hiring two more engineers (frontend and backend) and an operations lead right now. We provide the best equipment, we're generous with equity, and we pay well. We offer the usual perks like healthcare, commute costs, a gym membership, snacks/drinks in the office, working remotely/from home at your leisure, and paid vacation time. Generally, we stay focused on work and try to tone down distractions around the office -- you won't find a ping pong table in our space.
To date, we've raised $3.5MM. We’re backed by some of the world’s greatest investors: we went through Techstars NYC and Union Square Ventures led our seed round. If you're unfamilar, USV were the first backers of Twitter, Tumblr, Etsy, Coinbase, Kickstarter, and FourSquare among others.
If you're interested, send an email to jobs@flip.lease, and be sure to let us know how we can review things you've built and worked on in the past.
