Can my landlord evict me for subletting?

To find out if your landlord can evict you for subletting without approval read your lease and your state laws. In some states you can sublet even if they ignore your request.

Your landlord can evict you for subletting without permission if your lease absolutely prohibits subletting or requires you to get their permission and you didn't. The only situation where this isn't the case is if you tried to get their permission and they ignored you.

You may also have more leeway in your state if you sublet a room in your apartment rather than the entire apartment - check state laws to see if this is the case.

If they do start the eviction process make sure that they are doing it correctly. Landlords must follow very specific rules and regulations for evicting a tenant, and if they don't follow these rules then they have to start the eviction process over from the beginning.
