What is Rental Histories?

Being a renter can feel like a contradiction. Sure, it’s a deeply intimate experience—your apartment is where you live, after all. But at the end of the day, you don’t own the place. You’re eventually going to move on, whether that’s in a few months or a few years.

With Rental Histories, we’re asking you to tell your life story in leases. If you’re like us here at Caretaker, you probably don’t have a lot to remember your last apartment by (other than that part of the security deposit you never got back). That’s what this series is: a place to reminisce about the places you’ve temporarily called home. Read the first entry here.

How do I submit?

Fill out this form to submit your own Rental History for consideration. You must have lived in at least three previous rental units (including your current residence) to complete the form. But we encourage those with longer rental histories to include all their former homes!

All submissions are completely anonymous. We do ask for contact information, but it is for our editors’ use only. We may reach out for additional details if we decide to publish your story.
