Getting Approval for a Sublet in Oregon

Oregon laws do not specify how you should send a request for approval, so stick with common sense.

What to Send

Prepare as much information on your situation and your proposed subtenant as possible. Send a note along with a copy of your sublet agreement and evidence that you've already screened them. We've created this example sublet request letter for you to send your landlord.

In Oregon, a landlord has the right to conduct the same screening criteria they conducted with you, the original tenant, when you signed your lease, so be sure to provide the information for your subtenant that you provided for yourself during your application process.

How to Send It

Send this along with your sublet agreement to your landlord, using whichever means of communication you usually use to get in touch with them. Ask them to sign the sublet agreement. Both you and your subtenant should have a copy of the signed lease.
